Comment on Howard University orthopedic surgery program loses accreditation, citing ‘structural issues’ by Kevin Gill, MD, MMM https://staging.thehilltoponline.com/2024/03/18/howard-university-orthopedic-surgery-program-loses-accreditation-citing-structural-issues/#comment-12069 Fri, 22 Mar 2024 12:09:38 +0000 http://staging.thehilltoponline.com/?p=19261#comment-12069 Howard University faces a significant challenge that must be overcome by providing learning opportunities for residents. It is necessary for the Washington DC community to fulfill its duty to the university. As a former orthopaedic program director, we faced many of the same challenges with the ACGME requirements.
The Chair of the department and the program director must seek current and long-term solutions to diminish the harm upon the resident class. It is prudent for the organization to provide an excellent learning environment to nourish a rich and diverse orthopaedic educational opportunity for our future surgeons. The DC community certainly can offer patients and resources to meet the challenge.

Comment on Howard University orthopedic surgery program loses accreditation, citing ‘structural issues’ by Barbara C https://staging.thehilltoponline.com/2024/03/18/howard-university-orthopedic-surgery-program-loses-accreditation-citing-structural-issues/#comment-12068 Fri, 22 Mar 2024 11:44:48 +0000 http://staging.thehilltoponline.com/?p=19261#comment-12068 I watched King-Drew lose accreditation of one program which led to loss of trauma and eventual closure a few years ago. I pray that is not what’s happening at Howard. HBCUs are vital for health care. This is heartbreaking.
